It’s Diwali — the Hindu Festival of Lights — tomorrow Monday, October 24th*. The five-day festival celebrates "the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil" and honors Lakshmi, goddess of wealth and good fortune. Derived from the Sanskrit word dipavali, Diwali means "row of lights" or "row of clay lamps."
Two years ago, in the thick of it, my Hindu-raised self, my flatmate at the time (raised Sikh), and two other friends (both from Mexico, raised Catholic), celebrated the festival together. We ate delicious food, treat after treat, lovingly prepared by master chef and kinda born-again Hindu, RFB, and it was a wonderful evening full of laughter and love. We were in his teeny-tiny apartment — los amigos, you have never seen such a domicile, it is a work of art — and could not have “socially distanced” even if we wanted to (of course, nobody wanted to).
We all wished for freedom then and whilst the situation is not, ostensibly, as dire as it was two years ago, after learning this week that mRNA vaccines have been added to the childhood schedule which means that manufacturers will now get full liability protection for the authorized product forever, our wish for all human beings to be truly free still stands.
As Steve Kirsch writes about the decision:
I still don’t know of a single healthy kid who died from COVID. We do know of healthy kids who die from the shot. This is insanity and few members of Congress have the guts to speak out about this.
If you haven’t supported Senator Ron Johnson in the past, this would be a very good time to donate to his campaign. It is imperative he win. Please read this article and make a donation using the link in the article.
Let’s keep heading towards the victory of light! ✨🙏🏽✨
*The dates of the festival are based on the Hindu lunar calendar and fall between the Hindu months of Asvina and Kartika. Diwali typically begins between mid-October and mid-November on the Gregorian calendar.
