Written for those who remain dedicated to community-building in an insane world yet feel uncertain of how to do so effectively with all our many digital friends…

Thank you to my thoughtful partner who, after months of listening to me speak of the myriad of issues I had to deal with on the daily, researched and found this excellent article about running a social network site at an optimal size. It inspired some of the new directions Sane inevitably had to move towards…

Dear Sane Franciscans,

With the help of many friends and allies these past two years, much has been achieved. I’m very grateful to everyone who has been supporting these continued efforts to build real-life community here in the SF Bay Area. In theory we have a large group of us “out there” but the question I have for all those who refuse to be black-pilled — and that includes me — is:

Do we want to passively remain on these large, mostly anonymous channels as spectators continuously bearing witness and commenting on the increasing encroachments to our liberty? Or do we want to actively participate in creating a vibrant and solid community, engaged in fostering solutions and building our parallel structures along the way?

Small is Beautiful

If you are aware of the pivotal moment that we are now in (basically, as the awful truth reveals itself to our waking friends and family members), and simultaneously feel the overwhelm (ie. drowning in too much information — often the same information — that comes at us from too many directions, frustrated by brilliant ideas that never turn into action…), it may well be long past time to return to small.
