I just tried to book a hotel with a credit card. It was rejected. Nothing I can do except sleep in the park? I hate this digital noose-tightening. Who is my credit card company to decide how I spend my money? It is not my banker -- or my mom!
The homeschooling pod is interesting. My kids were homeschooled (way back in the previous century), but we weren't part of any larger organization. I confess to being naturally suspicious of attempts to make homeschooling more organized like regular schools, with credentialed teachers, fundraising ,and ever-larger purchased facilities. But perhaps it's necessary now in California; I haven't kept up with the changes in the laws around education.
That’s great you homeschooled your kids, Mark! And I can personally attest to the sincerity and tenacity of those who created and work at this school; what they are doing is very challenging in an environment that wants kids to be raised in um… non-healthy ways. The fundraiser is to build their school on farm land to give the kids more grounding in nature, which I think is beautiful and sorely lacking in most educational formats.
Well, to be fair, my wife (now ex) did most of the work for the homeschooling, while I was away making money at a software company. She did a great job; the kids are now 38 and 42 and are very fine adults.
The farm idea is great, as is the minimal screen time.
giving a homeless an E- dollar will be quite difficult. I also prefer to give a tip in money. I gave up on our farmers market when the vendors had to accept electronic payment (or use tokens and then wait until everyone was gone to exchange the tokens for a check that could be cashed on Monday)
I think they’d like us ultimately to be pointing our smartphones at homeless people, who will all be equipped with free smartphones given to them by the gov’t (which is already happening… because they want everybody to be tracked and traceable) and sending them “money”/credits that way. Re the farmers market, what a palaver! I receive EBT and so every Thursday I go to our local farmers market, take my card, stand in a line, ask for an amount which I get in wooden tokens. Up to $15 is doubled, so if I ask for $15, I receive $30, but that second amount can only be used for produce (that actually doesn’t bother me as I’m vegetarian and buy lots of fruit and veg) and then pay with those tokens. It feels like toy money, what children would play with in their tiny kitchens.
that is what they started doing here in small town GA 9 years ago. Before that, we vendors left when it got too hot. Now it is after 1 before they start paying out. No one can leave before that (I had no edibles but would have had to stay as well)
Always intriguing, informative. Cheers.
Thanks James! 🙏🏽
Thanks for writing this amongst juggling your other big projects, it’s good info and perspective.
Thank you Arima! Btw, I miss you missus.
😊miss u too💖
Chilling.

Oh but it (technocracy) wants to be your parent!
Sorry to hear that Jane. I hope you don’t have to sleep in the park.
What a spectacular repurposed card, Sane Franciscan, and thank you for talking about my favorite word—NO! (https://margaretannaalice.substack.com/i/94122656/become-ungovernable)
Thanks! Agreed, it’s a great word and I feature it in this short video I made: https://open.substack.com/pub/sanefrancisco/p/the-great-reject?r=20ejh&utm_medium=ios
I just watched your video and love it!
Yep email arrived. Kids targeted. Hate this.

Less screen time, yes!

So unfair. Always too much bureaucracy. That’s what I see with all these programs.
who wouldn't love your films, Sane? That little guy with the giant sunflower, so many happy hopping little legs...playing outdoors...heck, enroll ME!
and yes, i am analog all the way. Keep cash alive./
I know, right? So cute!!! I wanna go back to school if it’s like this one.
Love the video and wish I could return to childhood knowing what I know now!
Isn't that the wish of every adult (myself included)?
Thanks btw!
Knowing what I know now - If I had some more kids, I'd move out to the hinterlands - and there would be no smart devices on the premise.
And me and the kids would work outside either in the garden, chicken coop, or sawmill!
Peace!
BK
Beautiful idea! Peace to you too BK ✌🏽
